Jill Eastham is a former nurse and qualified counsellor who works as an Independent Trainer and Counsellor and was also Service Director of Self Injury Support in North Cumbria (S.I.S) - a charity that provides an information and support service to people who self-harm and to those people who support them, until 2007.
Jill established S.I.S in 2000 in order to find ways of easing the sense of ‘aloneness’ that is felt by people who self-harm. Jill's expertise is drawn both from her own past life experience but also from needs identified in a local research study she undertook in North Cumbria. Jill developed S.I.S into a service that has gained a reputation in offering an ethos of respect, acceptance and understanding; this was reported by clients to be fundamental to and highly effective in reducing their suicidal feelings and self-harming behaviour.
Jill has developed awareness training workshops and presentations to draw upon her own personal experience and professional understanding of self-harm. Training is available for carers and professionals working in a range of services, including:
Workshops/ presentations provide an interactive forum for discussion and learning more about this issue and how people can support those who self-harm in ways that may help them change their patterns of behaviour. The aim of the training is to raise awareness and understanding of self-harm and help carers and workers feel more confident in supporting people who self-harm.
Training is available to individuals and organisations, either as in house training or multi-agency workshops. Training packages can be tailored to meet the needs of your service
