Counselling, Supervision and Group Facilitation

Following on from a background in nursing, I have experience of working as a person-centred counsellor since qualifying in 1999 at St. Martin’s College, Carlisle.  My main area of work until recently was as a Manager of a charity (SIS) that supports people who self-harm and as a Counsellor with a small private practice.  I am also an accredited CRUSE Bereavement counsellor and have facilitated CRUSE bereavement support groups, as a volunteer.  I have worked for various agencies and Employee Assistance Providers, including the YWCA Cumbria Youth Counselling Bank, BUPA Wellness, Care First & First Assist and Carlisle Counselling Centre.  As well I offer training workshops and consultancy on self-harm and abuse and have taught the ABC/Centra Level 1 Counselling Skills course and have experience of facilitating person-development groups.

Counselling and Supervision:

I have a strong commitment to the person-centred approach and feel that the importance of any therapeutic relationship is based on trust, respect, openness and honesty that the client, in particular, can recognise and trust.  I offer a personal belief in the essential importance of integrity and work hard to help my clients and supervisees experience a process that they feel they have choice and ownership about.

Within the counselling /therapeutic relationship I believe that the opportunity to engage in individual counselling can help individuals to recognise and develop their own self awareness and draw on their individual capacity for growth, development and creativity.

Within a supervisory relationship, I offer person-centred supervision in which the focus is on the person of the therapist. I will offer a space where the supervisee may reflect on their practice, gain support, develop their expertise and be accountable for their professional practice.

Testimonials

"I would wholly recommend Jill as a counsellor. Her non-judgmental, caring & respectful approach helped me to be able to openly explore my feelings about my loss. Jill was calm and understanding when my emotions were raw and irrational and I felt able to say anything and everything in complete confidence."
