I will look at the emotional development of young people, the importance of a nurturing, authentic and warm environment, as well as current interventions we may use with individuals who significantly self harm.

A.: The Person or the Injury
Ellen Carr, Counsellor
How do you initially react when you see or hear of someone who self harms/injures?
Do you feel scared, Vulnerable? Frustrated /Angry? or do you feel inadequate – don’t know how to react?
These are all common, normal reactions. In this workshop, Ellen Carr will discuss the possible reasons behind your reactions and will look at reasons for adopting alternative ones.
B: Using Art and Imagery with clients who have eating distress
AnneMarie Norman and Maureen McGrath, NIWE
The workshop will explore ways of using elements of art work as a tool with clients.
C: Personal Insight from an ex-cutter

By sharing my experiences I am hoping to help professionals have a better insight of the difficulties faced by the service user when trying to overcome such behaviours, especially switching one negative behaviour for another, and also to share what helped me during this difficult period in my life.”
D: De-stigmatising self harming behaviour
